Business Plan Help

Writing a business plan is both the hardest and most important thing you have to do as you take steps to start your business. Why not get assistance from a professional who has helped hundreds of people with the same process? We’ve partnered with the Louisville Small Business Development Center to bring you expertise and resources that will help you plan your business

Get started by downloading the SBDC’s free business plan template. Once you’ve gathered as much information as you can, begin writing your plan using the template. Contact us to set up an appointment to work one-on-one with an experienced SBDC professional.

Find data about potential business sites and their costs for your business plan by running reports at Greater Louisville Inc.’s LouisvilleProspector.com. This free database contains hundreds of commercial spaces for sale or lease as well as other demographic information. Download site maps and aerial photos to include in your plan.

Business Plan Feedback

Our Business Plan Review Board was created to give you feedback on your business plan before you take it to the bank. This panel of CEOs, entrepreneurs, Fortune 500 executives and SBDC consultants will check your assumptions, analyze your financials and respond with recommendations on how to improve your plan. Their feedback will be objective, thorough and completely confidential.

Here’s how it works:

Step 1: E-mail your business plan to board chairman Paul Stasshelm, who will distribute it to the other members of the Review Board.

Step 2: "Pitch" your plan to the Review Board. The group assembles once per month so that entrepreneurs just like you can do a dry run of their pitch. Present your plan just as you would to a bank or investor. Answer challenging questions. Receive on-the-spot feedback about how to improve both your plan and your presentation.

Get a Mentor

Our mentor program will give you access to someone you can call anytime – for a quick question or an in depth problem solving session. You will be matched with a successful, retired business executive committed to volunteering his/her time to helping first-time entrepreneurs just like you. Your mentor will be a been-there-done-that source of hands-on experience that will help you and your business succeed.

Join a Performance Roundtable

Once the business is up and running, many new owners become solely concerned with daily tasks; as Michael Gerber says, “they work in their business, not on their business.” Performance Roundtables bring together a group of 10 – 12 owners from non-competing industries to meet on a regular basis. Each group is lead by a skilled facilitator who provides structured agendas based on the challenges, issues and problems faced by the individual group members.

Roundtable meetings are a chance to get away from the daily grind, discuss your business at a strategic level, ask questions, share best practices and build relationships with other entrepreneurs. Participation will make you more accountable and help you achieve your goals more quickly than going it alone.
